Deck 1 Review

by Roger Dunn

The Deck 1 Restaurant is an open air restaurant on the east bank of the Ping River affording excellent views of the city along the river. The decor is modern Thai and blends in beautifully with the surrounding environment. The tables are arranged under trees wrapped in neon lighting and affords a wonderful natural experience.
There is a wonderful modern jazz band playing subtly in the background to add to the experience but not too loud to be intrusive. The service staff is very professional and friendly and add to the already relaxing environment.

The menu, at first glance looks like any other Thai menu with selections such as grilled chicken with papaya salad and sticky rice, or fried pork with basil and chilies but the food, when it comes is actually a wonderful fusion of Thai and Western and is very tasty. The sticky rice is grilled and excellent and the salads that come with the various meals are unique and excellent.
Their is an extensive wine list and a very tempting dessert menu. Prices range from 150 to 350 baht a plate (add 10% for service charge and another 7% for V.A.T.).
